A Japanese Tradition: Tanabata at Ki Niseko

Celebrate and make a wish at our Tanabata Festival or "star festival", an annual Japanese tradition. Hang your wish from on our special Tanabata Bamboo on August 5-7th in the Ki Niseko lobby.

Tanabata Festival is celebrated right across Japan and we are delighted to celebrate this festival with our guests.

According to a Chinese legend, the two stars, Altair and Vega, which are usually separated from each other, are able to come together on the 7th day of the 7th month each year. With the lunar calendar having the 7th month coinciding with August rather than July, Tanabata is celebrated in Japan in the month of August.

One of the most popular traditions of the festival is to write a wish on a piece of paper and hand it on a bamboo tree so come along and make a wish for yourself!
