MINAMO: Reflecting the Colours of Nature

This October, Ki Gallery will host the annual Autumn 'Minamo' exhibition, by artist Shin Tokumaru.

A message from the artist:

"Hangetsu-ko (Lake Hangetsu) is situated at the entrance of Mt Yōtei near Kutchan. After going through the pedestrian walk in the old-growth forest, a 30 metre walk through the damp passage will take you to the lake.

Surrounded by quiet nature, one can't resist feeling a sense of unity. The wind produces distinctive waves affected by the sunken geological formation of the lake. These waves reflect the surrounding views in totally unique ways.

I have been taking photos of these scenes since 2005 and I have titled them “Minamo”. These scenes vary through the seasons, time of the day, and weather. I am fond of the patterns made by the reflection of colourful leaves and the sky in autumn.

My passion is to send viewers the energy of nature through Minamo.

Even though Hangetsu-ko is a small crater lake, the way the wind blows can create numerous patterns on the water, which are depicted on the artworks. Magnificent colour reflections are captured on the surface of the lake under blue sky, clouds, and trees."
