Spring has once again brought its vibrant colours to the Niseko area, accompanied by refreshing breezes and pleasant temperatures.
One of the region’s most beloved spring attractions is Mr. Mishima’s Shibazakura Garden in Kutchan. A seasonal highlight cherished by both locals and visitors from around the world, the garden is famous for its stunning display of pink moss phlox in full bloom. The contrast between the vivid pink floral carpet and the snow-capped slopes of Mt. Yotei creates a truly spectacular scene that can only be enjoyed at this time of year.
Why not make Ki Niseko your base and experience this unforgettable spring landscape for yourself?
This year’s warmer weather has set the stage for an earlier blooming season, with the shibazakura expected to begin flowering from late May. At the garden, Mr. Mishima is already busy preparing for the arrival of visitors, getting everything ready for spring. The vibrant pink carpet that transforms the landscape each year is eagerly anticipated by locals and travellers alike.
Covering approximately 4,000 square metres, the garden’s stunning display of shibazakura is complemented by the majestic backdrop of Mt. Yotei, still capped with lingering snow. This striking contrast between vivid pink blossoms and the mountain’s white slopes creates a breathtaking view that can only be experienced in Niseko during this special time of year.
The blooming period of shibazakura is remarkably short, lasting only around two to three weeks in total. Of that time, the garden reaches its most spectacular peak for just seven to ten days. From Mr. Mishima’s Garden, visitors can capture stunning photographs of the vibrant pink blossoms set against the backdrop of Mt. Yotei, which often remains dusted with snow well into spring.
The contrast between the vivid pink floral carpet and the majestic mountain creates a truly breathtaking scene that can only be experienced during this fleeting season.
