Yasuyuki Shimanuki

Niseko based International freelance photographer/cinematographer.

I studied architecture for many years at high school and university because I was inspired by my uncle who was an architect. After university graduation, I studied art, design, and architecture at graduate school for 2 years to get a Postgraduate Diploma in England.

When I was 19 years old, I obtained a working holiday visa to travel around New Zealand and also learnt English and foreign cultures. I was inspired by New Zealand’s pure nature and people and started to take photos during the trip. Currently, I am an International photographer/cinematographer based in Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan. Specialized in ski action photoshoot and filming.

I started a self-produced project "Travel the world" in 2017, the first trip was to Iceland, and published a photo book of Iceland "ísjaki" in 2020.

"ísjaki - Presence of Icelandic Nature "

The artist traveled through Iceland for 20 days in May 2017. Skier Magnus Brandt joined for a week to do camp & ski adventure to search for skiable mountains. Finally, we found an amazing mountain range with snow, skied with the Greenland sea as background in the white night.

This exhibition, displaying some of the dreamy landscapes of Iceland trip, ski action scenes, and more. You can feel much of Iceland nature as if you are traveling through.

This Iceland trip became an art book (photo book) of Iceland. The art book is self-produced by the artist, project planning, Iceland trip, photography, art direction, design, and publishing. The art book was launched on 4th December 2020.

The art book on sale and subscription are available at An Dining during the exhibition period.
